A true, undiscovered gem, this charming continental spot offers old-fashioned service and a warm atmosphere that keep diners coming back. Brandywine will never be known for its culinary creativity, but quality ingredients go into every well-prepared item listed on the chalkboard menu: veal Oscar, bouillabaisse, sweetbreads in demi-glace with a hint of mustard, frogs’ legs Provençal and good paella (which requires one day's advance notice and is available only on weekdays). Slightly more contemporary specials---dishes such as sesame-crusted ahi in soy-ginger sauce, Kurobuta pork with morel mushrooms, and a macadamia-crusted wild Alaskan salmon in Champagne cream sauce---are also offered. Many items, such as the Caesar and spinach salads, are prepared tableside, as well as cherries jubilee and crêpes Suzette. The dining room feels more like a cozy living room, filled with just a handful of nicely appointed tables, and a series of completely private booths are ideal for intimate conversation.
